Are you looking for the best desserts in Austin?

I’m always doing dessert research in Austin because there are so many delicious options. To create this list of best desserts, I considered unique desserts that you can only find here, whether it’s an Austin company or a dessert that isn’t common or is especially noteworthy. This list doesn’t include desserts at restaurants but does include desserts at bakeries.

If you’re visiting Austin and/or a dessert lover like me, here are 11 companies with stand-out desserts!

Mochi Donuts from Bom Bakeshop

As this company proudly shares, they exist to spread joy! Their mochi donuts come in creative flavors and there are typically themed flavors. A sampling of their creative flavors includes earl grey with lavender, matcha strawberry, and lemon brulee. They have pop-ups and regularly sell the donuts each weekend at Dia’s Market in Central Austin.

Churro Sundae at Churro Co.

The churros at Churro Co. are excellent and of course, adding ice cream to make it a sundae would make them even better. But back to the churros. They’re not simply fried dough. Nope, they can be tossed in a variety of sugar mixes, like cocoa sugar or graham cracker sugar, and then topped with things like apple pie, chocolate cheesecake, chocolate or caramel drizzle, and more. This food truck is a decadent treat! Extra sweetness – they also serve funnel cake at their bakery location.

Locations:

  • Trailer: 1906 South First, Austin, TX 78704
  • Bakery: 11101 Burnet Rd # A140, Austin, TX 78758

Asian-Inspired Cookies by Cookie Wookie Kitchen

Black sesame cookies n’ cream, ube coconut, pandan with toasted rice, red bean mochi, matcha pistachio – these are some of the delicious and creative flavors Cookie Wookie Kitchen offer. I love that Erica takes inspiration from Asian flavors and infuses them into aged cookie dough. To try these cookies, you’ll need to order them for delivery or pick them up at the shop Parker and Scott or in Cedar Park. Follow them on Instagram to learn about their next pop-ups.

Chocolate at Edis Chocolates & Bakery

If you love chocolate, you have to visit Edis Chocolates & Bakery! This shop in Northwest Austin is filled with chocolate desserts like truffles, cake, brownies, and more. Be sure to get a sampling to try. I’ve loved everything I’ve tried, especially the hazelnut amaretto torte and the chocolate cupcake.

Website: https://www.edischocolates.com/

Location: 3808 Spicewood Springs Road, Austin, TX 78759

Loaded Donuts at Gourdough’s

Looking at this list, Gourdough’s is the original best Austin dessert that everyone talked about. It’s for a good reason. Their tagline is Big Fat Donuts and these loaded donuts are exactly that. Miss Shortcake (cream cheese and strawberries) and Mother Clucker (fried chicken and honey butter) are two of my favorites.

Website: https://gourdoughs.com/

Location: Trailer – 1503 S. 1st Street, Austin TX 78704

Ice Cream from Merry Monarch Creamery

This food truck has some delicious, creative ice cream flavors! It’s made from high-quality ingredients in interesting mixes. Here are some examples: matcha caramel, oreo miso, and passion fruit pie.

Website: https://www.merrymonarchcreamery.com/

Locations:

  • Food truck at 5000 Burnet Road, Austin, TX 78756
  • Scoops sold at Bottega: 2100 Robert Browning St, Austin, TX 78723

Huge Chocolate Chip Cookies from Teddy V Patisserie

If we’re talking huge chocolate chip cookies, you’ll probably think of the famed ones from Levain Bakery in New York City. Today you can have a Levain cookie delivered to your doorstep or you can buy frozen ones from the grocery store. But if you’re in Austin, try these two famous cookies that might wow you even more!

The Teddy V Cookies have mastered the art of crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside. They’re made with seemingly normal ingredients and can include walnuts. You can get these heavyweight cookies delivered nationwide, or pick them up at the Texas Farmers Market (on the weekends) or at a few coffee shops in Austin.

Website: https://www.teddyvcookies.com/

Stuffed Cookies at ThoroughBread

You read that correctly – STUFFED cookies have earned the place on this list of best desserts in Austin! ThoroughBread has some delicious stuffed cookies. They remind me of geodes – they might look plain on the outside but inside is gooey magic! Banana Nutella and peanut butter and jelly are two of my favorite flavors! They also have chocolate chip and chocolate chip pecan.

Website: https://www.thoroughbreadatx.com/

Location: 1709 Bluebonnet Lane, Austin, TX 78704

Texas Ice Cream Flavors at Lick Honest Ice Creams

Seasonal and artisanal flavors are found at Lick! It starts with quality ingredients – milk and cream from a Central Texas dairy. Then mix in locally made ingredients like chocolate, olive oil, goat cheese, and honey. Yes, they also have dairy-free flavors.

You can’t go wrong with their everyday menu which includes fresh mint and chocolate, salted caramel, and Texas sheet cake. But you can also get adventurous with their seasonal flavors, inspired by Texas produce and ingredients. Some examples include grapefruit with champagne marshmallows, tequila lime pie, and yaupon matcha chip.

Three locations in Austin:

  • 1100 S Lamar Boulevard, Austin, TX 78704
  • 6555 Burnet Road #200, Austin, TX 78757
  • 1905 Aldrich Street #150, Austin, TX 78723

Mini Pies at Tiny Pies

Pie is delicious – buttery and crispy crust with a rich filling – but it’s hard to find small portions and hard to eat without it being messy. Enter Tiny Pies. These mini pies are muffin-sized and packed with all the good stuff – lots of local ingredients.

Apple, cherry, pecan, and chocolate cream are some of their classic flavors. The Texas Two-Step is a unique classic – pecan pie with a brownie! Strawberry is one of my favorite seasonal flavors. They also have savory pies – pot pie and quiche types.

Location: 5035 Burnet Road, Ste. 100, Austin, TX 78756

Cookie Choux at Whipped Bakery

Ok, this one is slightly outside of Austin City Limits – in Leander – but I hope you’ll accept the exception for their amazing cookie choux! These puffs are filled with fluffy whipped cream and the outside features a crispy topping. It’s worth the drive to me!

Location: 15609 Ronald Reagan Blvd, B220, Leander, TX 78641

Yum! I’m a believer in eating more dessert, so I hope you enjoy some of Austin’s best dessert options!

People tend to visit restaurants and shops within a set radius of where they live. While I love visiting restaurants in Central and Downtown Austin, North Austin has its fair share of great restaurants too. There’s no need to go farther than you need to for good food! Here are my favorite and fan-favorite restaurants in North Austin.

Where is North Austin? My southern boundary is Anderson Lane and my other general boundaries are Wells Branch Parkway (north) and Lakeline Blvd. (west) and I-35 (east).

Want to shop locally in Austin? Farmers’ markets and farm stands are as local as you can get! You’ll find farm goods like vegetables and meat, prepared foods like pickles and pastries, and artisan goods like jewelry and art. Plus, shopping at a farmers market is good for you and your community.

What’s the difference between farmers’ markets and farm stands? Farmers’ markets are typically in a parking lot with booths featuring many farms and companies. Farm stands are typically at the farm and feature fewer companies.

While you may go to the market closest to your house as I do, it’s fun to check out others since vendors differ from market to market. Each market features the current vendors on their website and/or social media.

Here are seven farmers’ markets and farm stands to buy local goods.

Barton Creek Farmers Market

Located in the large parking lot of Barton Creek Mall, this is Austin’s first farmers’ market. You’ll find plenty of parking, and all the typical vendors like vegetables to prepared foods.

Location: Barton Creek Mall, 2901 S Capital of Texas Hwy, Austin, Texas 78746

Day/Time: Saturdays, 9 am – 1 pm

https://bartoncreekfarmersmarket.org/

Boggy Creek Farm

This farm stand has a very large selection with not only produce from their fields. Several other local farms stock their goods here, like meat, eggs, and prepared foods.

Location: 3414 Lyons Road Austin, Texas 78702

Day/Time: Wednesdays – Saturdays, 8 am – 1 pm

https://www.boggycreekfarm.com/

Farmer George Market

This smaller market has multiple locations around town, with their Austin market on Thursday nights.

Location:

  • Austin: 8001 Mesa Dr, Austin, TX 78731
  • Pflugerville: 901 Old Austin Hutto Rd, Pflugerville TX 78660
  • Round Rock: 201 University Oaks Blvd, Round Rock, TX 78665

Day/Time:

  • Austin: Thursday, 3 – 7 pm
  • Pflugerville: Tuesdays, 3 – 7 pm; Sundays, 11 am – 3 pm
  • Round Rock: Saturday, 10 am – 2 pm

https://www.farmergeorge.market/

Green Gate Farms

This farm stand features Green Gate Farms’ produce and local partners for eggs, honey, and more.

Location: 8310 Canoga Ave, Austin, Texas, 78724

Day/Time: Saturdays, 9 am – 12 pm

https://greengatefarms.net/

Lone Star Farmers Market

This farmers market has some local favorite vendors.

Location:

  • Jovie Belterra Village: 167 Hargraves Dr, Austin, TX 78737
  • Steiner Ranch: 2900 N Quinlan Park Rd, Austin, TX 78732

Day/Time:

  • Jovie Belterra Village: Sunday, 10 am – 2 pm
  • Steiner Ranch: 1st and 3rd Thursday, 4 – 7 pm

https://www.lonestarfarmersmarket.com/

Texas Farmers Market

This market is my favorite, and both markets have an abundance of vendors.

Location:

  • Mueller: 2006 Philomena St. Austin, Texas 78723
  • Bell District: 200 South Bell Boulevard, Cedar Park, Texas 78613

Day/Time:

  • Mueller: Sunday, 10 am – 2 pm
  • Bell District: Saturday, 9 am – 1 pm

https://texasfarmersmarket.org/

Sustainable Food Center Farmers Market

One of the market locations is in Downtown Austin, making it easier for people who live there to access local goods.

Location:

  • Republic Square: 422 Guadalupe St, Austin, Texas 78701
  • Sunset Valley: Toney Burger Center, 3200 Jones Rd, Austin, Texas 78745

Day/Time: Saturday, 9 am – 1 pm (both)

There is SO MUCH to learn in the culinary world and plenty of cooking classes and food experiences to try in Austin. Learning techniques from experts and practicing hands-on in a class is a fun way to learn. It’s even more fun when you learn with a group of friends or on a date night. It’s a perfect gift for a friend or significant other who loves food.

So, take a look at this list of options and sign up for a class or two!

Antonelli’s Cheese Class

You may know Antonelli’s as the popular cheese shop in Hyde Park. Across the street, they have a cheese house where they host fun classes. Yes, you get to try lots of cheese! Their class topics vary every month, though they usually have a basic 101 class available.

Location: 4220 Duval St, Austin, TX 78751

The Prickly Pear Cooking Classes

If you want to learn to cook a multi-course meal in a group setting, this is a great option! There are a few themes to choose from, and Deb is an excellent instructor, providing helpful tips and encouragement.

See my recap about our Taste of Rome Class here.

Location: East Austin kitchen venue

Con’ Olio Oils and Vinegars

While this spot is primarily an olive oil-tasting bar, it also has space to host a variety of classes. From olive oil 101 to paella cooking, these fun classes are a great option!

Location: 3500 Ranch Road 620 S, Ste F-400, Bee Cave, Texas 78738

Over the Top Cake Supplies

I’m usually more successful at baking than cooking. Over the Top Cake Supplies is the spot for fun baking classes. Think of classes like puff pastries and cake or cookie decorating.

Location: 9070 Research Blvd #203, Austin, TX 78757

Uroko

If you love sushi, Uroko‘s talented sushi chefs will share all their secrets. Learn sushi 101 or something crafty like floral arranging while sipping special sake.

Kitchen House

From cake decorating to chef classes for kids, Kitchen House is for all ages and hosts a variety of classes.

Location: 1514 Dandridge Dr, Cedar Park, TX 78613

Thai Fresh

My first cooking class ever was the Thai favorites class at Thai Fresh. We learned how to make several different dishes and then enjoyed the meal together. Instructor Jam Samchit was full of Thai food knowledge and my favorite thing was learning about the prominent Thai flavors. Ok, and maybe eating the Sticky Rice with Mango we made. Thai Fresh has a number of classes every month.

Location: 909 W Mary St, Austin, TX 78704

Barton Springs Mill

Barton Springs Mill works with farmers to grow ancient and heirloom grains and sells different types of flour and grain. They also offer baking classes for items like baguettes and pasta.

Location: 16604 Fitzhugh Rd, Dripping Springs, TX 78620

Sur La Table

This kitchen-goods store offers cooking classes in their private room with a show kitchen. The store is located in The Domain, and you’ll find classes for seasonal and regional cooking. From croissants (I loved this class!) to one-pan dinners, you’re bound to find a topic you like.
