Fearless Wanderlust v.25 – June 2017

June 21, 2017

You can never get enough wanderlust inspiration. The monthly feature Fearless Wanderlust includes recent travel news, articles, and inspiration to encourage you to put more travel adventure in your life! Check out this month’s version.

Skip the Lines at Popular European Sights
Who likes waiting in lines? Nobody! This post on The Everygirl has some tips to avoid the lines and headaches at places like the Eiffel Tower and the Colosseum.

Giving Back in Marrakesh, Morocco
This non-profit in Morocco empowers women through culinary skills. If you’re visiting, you can dine at their restaurant or take a cooking class with them. How fun would it be to learn how to cook Moroccan food! Bookmarking this for a future trip.

Visiting Machu Picchu
I’ve mentioned Machu Picchu a couple of times in my Fearless Wanderlust posts, and it’s still near the top of my to-do list. If you need a guide to what and how, take a look at this detailed New York Times post.

Havasupai Falls in the Grand Canyon
There is a magical oasis in the Grand Canyon. Did you know about this? It takes 20 miles round-trip to hike to the waterfalls but you are rewarded when you arrive!

Feel Good About Your Travel
I talked a little about ethical travel in my last Fearless Wanderlust post as it concerns animal tourism. If you want to know more about ethical travel and how to do it, I found this informative post for you.

Thailand Closing National Parks
Tourism is booming in Thailand, and the beautiful natural parks are taking the hit. Forty percent of the National Parks (61 out of 154 parks) will be closed again this June to October. This is the fourth consecutive year the government is doing this. Remember the government also closed one island indefinitely last year. I hope this is enough time to conserve it!

Best Chance to See the Northern Lights
We’re currently in a decline in frequency to see the Northern Lights. While you can see the lights in the Arctic Circle from September to March, the number of nights this is possible is decreasing until the frequency shifts to an incline from 2020 to 2025. Blogger Derek Low gives a good explanation in this post about where to see the Northern Lights. Head to Alaska, Iceland, Norway, or Sweden if you want to see them.

Dreaming About Spain
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: my Spain trip was magical and I’ve been dreaming about returning. So, I’ve been excited to read about my friend Kelsey’s honeymoon to Spain on her blog So Much Life. So much good food and pretty sights! Check out all the posts here.

Eating in Spain
Speaking of Spain, I enjoyed this article on The Kitchn titled “How a Trip to Spain Changed the Way I Eat Forever.” Being on vacation with friends probably had something to do with my romanticized thoughts about eating in Spain, yet I agree with the author. Tapas and small, shared plates is a fun and leisure way to truly enjoy what you eat.

Purpose Hotel
Do you remember me talking about the Purpose Hotel a few months back? Their Kickstarter was funded and the hotel is being built in Nashville! It’s an inspiring venture because every part of a person’s stay at this hotel will benefit someone else, from the products provided in the room to the uniforms the employees will wear. Give their Facebook page a like to follow along the progress!

Thinking About Long-Term Travel?
This New York Times article is fantastic! If you’re thinking about spending weeks or months traveling, the article gives you lots to think about to help you prepare for your trip.

Franklin BBQ in Austin, TX
If you’ve ever visited or thought about visiting Austin, Franklin BBQ is probably on your radar. This restaurant touts 4-hour lines and some of the best barbecue around. It gets plenty of press, including this Travel Channel video.

To Cruise or Not to Cruise?
I’m on the fence about cruises. It’s an efficient way to travel, allowing you to cover a lot of ground, but it’s harder to experience a city when you’re only spending a few hours there. Have you ever gone on a cruise or would you? Where did you go and did you like it?

Cats & Greece
One of the cool memories about my trip to Greece was that there were cats everywhere we went! My Greek friend started an Instagram called Cats & Greece, so if you’re planning on visiting or like cats, take a look!

What a fun list! I have loved Kelsey’s Spain posts. I can’t believe I’ve never been! It’s likely going to be our next big trip. I wish I had read that New York Times article before our Europe backpacking trip last year! What a great resource. I think we did most of those things well, but there are a few areas I’d be more prepared for if I got to do it again!

Spain is a great option for your next trip. I can’t wait to go back! I know – I’m keeping that NYT article in my back pocket for any future long-term trips.

That waterfall picture is CRAZY beautiful! Need to go there!!

I know, right?! I can’t believe there’s a place like that in the Grand Canyon. It’s on my list!

I’ve been on one cruise with a friend & wasn’t a fan. It was kind of boring to me. I do think it would be a good option if a whole family was going though! My brother & his wife’s family all did a Disney cruise with kids, grandparents, etc & they LOVED it.

Yes – agreed that for big family trips, it’s a great idea since there’s likely something everyone will enjoy. I was looking at the Scandinavian cruises that go to seven different countries in 11 days. You can spend a whole day exploring each city and you don’t need to worry about planning transportation or a place to stay. It could be fun!

I didn’t realize that we’re on a decline to see the northern lights…makes sense. I would LOVE to see them sometime in the next few years! Anita, I LOVED this post. So many great resources – thanks girl!
