30 Best Cold Treats in Austin

It’s about to get real HOT in Austin, Texas. But ice cream, gelato, soft serve, shaved ice, acai bowls, smoothies, and even soups are here to save the day! Yes, we don’t discriminate our cold treats here. If it’s served cold and it can help cool us down in the Texas summer, we want it!

Thankfully we have plenty of cold snacks, drinks, and desserts to choose from in Austin. And why is it that most of these shops are well-designed too? This list could keep you occupied all summer long. Here are 30 of my favorite cold treats in Austin.

Ice Cream Sandwich at Cold Cookie Company
Sweet trailer for ice cream sandwiches, milkshakes, sundaes and more. I recommend the birthday cake ice cream on snickerdoodle cookies!

Acai Bowl at Blenders & Bowls
Like a smoothie topped with fruit and granola, acai bowls are a refreshing and healthy cold treat. I loved the mango madness bowl.

Gelato Pop at Venezia Italian Gelato
This shop has some of the creamiest gelato I’ve had! The gelato pops are a unique find in Austin and so tasty with its light chocolate shell.

Iced Matcha Latte at The Factory – Cafe with a Soul
The cutest coffee shop in town serves an iced matcha latte, among many other coffee drinks and snacks.

Ice Cream at Lick Ice Creams
My favorite thing about Lick is their unique flavor combinations made from pure ingredients. There’s always something different to try, and check out their seasonal flavors.

Smoothie at Daily Juice
Cold and sweet doesn’t have to be unhealthy. Daily Juice offers delicious made-to-order juices, smoothies, and acai bowls.

Ice Cream at Sweet Ritual
Vegan friends, this one is for you! Sweet Ritual serves dairy-free ice cream. I highly recommend the Unicorn Poop flavor.

Ice Cream at Amy’s Ice Creams
Amy’s is an Austin classic. An abundance of locations around town makes Amy’s easy to find. My go-to is the Mexican Vanilla with Oreos or Sweet Cream with strawberries.

Gelato at Dolce Neve
I never thought I liked pistachio gelato until I tasted Dolce Neve’s. This charming shop on the south side is a sweet place to stop for a snack.

Liquid Nitrogen Ice Cream at SPUN Ice Cream
SPUN wowed me with their liquid nitrogen ice cream. You can’t get fresher ice cream than this. I also love their interesting combinations.

Ice Cream Sandwich at Moojo
Whether you customize your own ice cream sandwich or choose from their fun combinations, you’ll find the sweet spot at Moojo. I recommend salted caramel ice cream with pretzels.

Shaved Ice at Snow Monster
Taiwanese shaved ice is a hit! Also known as snow cream or milk snow, this ice cream-like dessert is topped with condensed milk and your choice of toppings. Melt-in-your-mouth goodness!

Boba Drink at Tea Haus
Cool off with bubble drinks on the go! Bubble or boba drinks have tapioca balls at the bottom. While I’d rather have my drinks without boba, it doesn’t make the Hong Kong Milk Tea any less delicious and refreshing. You can also get fruit slushes here.

Soft Serve in a Bubble Cone at Cow Tipping Creamery
Loaded. The bubble cone is cake-like and you get to choose your soft serve flavor, a sauce, and two toppings. Get ready because the topping options include cookie dough, brownie chunks, and cookie crumbles!

With 19 locations around town, Juiceland will keep you cool and hydrated. Their jam-packed smoothies and juices make your tastebuds happy. I love the Wundershowzen smoothie!

Looking for froyo? This local spot will give you a chuckle with their fan-named yogurt flavors. Their topping options are plenty!

Have your dessert, and it can be alcoholic too! Whether it’s in a cup, cone, or milkshake, this boozy ice cream takes “day drinking” to another level.

Frozen Banana (Dipped and Topped) at Bananarchy
Ok, so it doesn’t look…appropriate, but believe me when I say this frozen banana dipped and topped with your choices will definitely cool you off. Chocolate and cookie crumbles, yes, please!

Snow Cone at Casey’s New Orleans Snowballs
This snow cone stand is open seasonally, so get it while it’s hot! Go find out what Tiger’s Blood is all about. And don’t forget the cream topping.

Lemonade at Austin City Lemons
Good old-fashioned lemonade is easily in reach with Austin City Lemons serving up this classic drink at their cute lemon-shaped stand on South Congress. Want it extra cold? Get it as a frozen slush.

Rolled Ice Cream at Ice Scrapers
Roll on over to Ice Scrapers near the UT Campus for Thai-style ice cream. It’s made fresh on an ice cold surface and scraped into rolls. Topped with your choice of toppings and whipped cream, this treat is satisfying for your eyes and mouth.

Italian Ice at Jim-Jim’s Water Ice
This cold treat is similar to a sorbet: smooth, flavorful, and refreshing as it quickly melts in your mouth. Try the mango and passion fruit flavors.

This ice cream truck, owned and located at South Congress Hotel, serves a variety of sweet and cold treats, including paletas. Though for my next visit, I’ve got my eye on a kouign amann ice cream sandwich!

Mangonada at Hay Elotes
This cold treat is piled so high that you’ll need a buddy to finish it. A little bit of spice and a whole lot of cold, this treat will definitely cool you off.

Smoothie at O’ Joy

If you haven’t tried cold soup yet, put it on your list! Soup Peddler creates gazpachos and cold soups for a summer rotation. Watermelon Gazpacho and Green Gazpacho are on the menu this summer. They also have refreshing smoothies and juices.

Yes, it’s as magical as it sounds. Get ready for the brain freeze because the frozen hot chocolate will help you beat the heat. Order it with whipped cream, of course!
